For many parents, a baby shower is one of the most anticipated parts of pregnancy – besides the birth, of course! It’s fun, you get to eat and drink tons of good food, see your friends, and open cute little baby gifts. However, what’s the best timeline to use when getting all the shower details together? Here are our tips for planning a baby shower your friends will be talking about for a long time.
THREE MONTHS OUT:
-Choose the date. If there are any guests (like your mom or BFF) who can NOT miss it, check with them first to make sure they aren’t in any weddings or going on vacation that day.
-Make your guest list. Will it be a couples’ shower, or ladies only? Will you invite just your closest circle of friends, or go big with acquaintances, church, work, and relatives? You may answer this questions differently depending on your budget, which leads us to…
-Determine your budget. Will you be paying for the shower? Your friend? Your parents? Your budget will determine what kind of venue, food, décor, and guest list you end up with so take it into consideration up front.
TWO MONTHS OUT:
-Decide where the shower will be held. Your house? A restaurant? A conference room? An event venue? Now that you know your budget and guest list, you can work through the options that best suit your personality and the shower theme.
-Register for gifts. BuyBuy BABY and Target are common places for a baby registry in Greensboro, Winston-Salem and surrounding areas. Try these tips on making a baby registry! You can even ask for contributions toward your doula fund in lieu of yet another blanket or onesie. We highly recommend BabyList for online registries!
-Choose a theme. There are so many cute baby shower theme possibilities out there: gone are the days of pink bows for girls and blue puppies for boys. Check out all these baby shower theme ideas.
-Send out your invitations. This is plenty of time for the guests to save the date, get a baby sitter, and shop for a gift. EXTRA TIP: Your invitations should include the date, time, and location of the shower, as well as where you’re registered and any special instructions (i.e. bring a board book instead of a card; bring a slip of paper with your best baby advice written down).
ONE MONTH OUT:
-Start planning your menu. Do you have any food cravings or aversions? The fewer guests you have, the fancier you can usually budget in the food department. Check our Pinterest for on-theme baby shower food ideas.
-Purchase décor. Think balloons, banners, buntings, tableware, centerpieces, goodie bags, personalized straws or candies, etc.
-Place your orders. For special baby shower cakes, cupcakes, cookies, hors d’ouevres, or monogrammed items, this should be enough time to get on the artist’s calendar.
-Plan the activities. Skip the embarrassing belly-measuring contests, and try one of these unique baby shower games instead!
ONE WEEK OUT:
-Assign a trusted guest to take photos at the baby shower.
-Fill goodie bags, if you are offering them.
-Wrap gifts and/or contest prizes.
-If you’re preparing the party food, go ahead and make any items that can be stored in the freezer until the shower date.
-Check in with any guests who haven’t sent back their RSVP yet.
BABY SHOWER DAY!
-Arrive early to set up the venue with the food, décor, and gifts.
-Assign a trusted guest to write down the gifts received.
-Have fun and enjoy the celebration of the new little one you are about to welcome into your home and life!
By following this baby shower planning timeline, you can ensure that the whole party goes off without a hitch. Not even pregnancy brain is going to stop you from planning, executing, and enjoying the perfect baby shower celebration!
